Getting Started with Collections#

Getting Started with Collections#

Collections let you save, organize, and export groups of citations. Think of them as folders for your references.

Create Your First Collection#

  1. Go to Collections

  2. Click New collection in the sidebar

  3. Name it (e.g. “Thesis Chapter 3”)

  4. The collection opens, ready for entries

Add Citations#

There are several ways to add citations to a collection:

Quick-add (on the collections page)#

Use the search bar at the bottom of the collections page. Type a DOI, ISBN, or free-text search like “Goswami MethodsX 2026” and press Enter. If there are multiple matches, pick the right one.

From the formatter#

  1. Go to the App page

  2. Format citations as usual (DOI, paste, or manual entry)

  3. Click Save to collection on any result

  4. Pick a collection from the dropdown, or create a new one

Import a .bib or .ris file#

  1. Open a collection

  2. Click Import

  3. Drop a .bib or .ris file, or use the file picker

  4. Duplicate entries (by DOI) are skipped automatically

Manual entry#

  1. In the collections page, switch to the Manual tab at the bottom

  2. Fill in the form (title, authors, year, journal, etc.)

  3. Click Add to collection

View Formatted Citations#

Collections show your entries formatted in the selected style. Use the style picker at the top to switch between APA, IEEE, Chicago, and 2900+ other styles. The view updates live.

Export#

Click Export .bib to download a BibTeX file with Better BibTeX keys (e.g. goswamiTwodimensional2026 instead of DOI-based IDs). You can also click Copy all formatted to copy the full bibliography to your clipboard as rich text.

Anonymous Collections#

You don’t need an account for your first collection. OokCite stores it in your browser’s local storage. Sign in to sync across devices and unlock more collections.
